TECO visit further cements Visedo partnership
Taiwanese delegation tours Lappeenranta site and local university
LAPPEENRANTA, FINLAND – Visedo has welcomed TECO Electric & Machinery Company’s chairperson Sophia Chiu to its Finnish operations and to the nearby Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) today.
TECO and Ms Chiu have been impressed by the collaboration between Visedo and LUT and during their visit they will visit the electrical engineering facilities and explore collaboration models that the university has with corporates.
In May this year Visedo signed a historic production and co-operation agreement with TECO, Asia’s largest electric motor producer. Since then Visedo Chief Operating Officer Timo Koljonen has visited TECO’s factory in Taiwan to inspect how the Taiwanese company was starting the manufacturing of Visedo’s electric motors according to the partnership.
TECO is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of electric industrial motors. Under the signed agreement, Visedo will benefit from TECO’s significant production capacity and ability to service major tender projects worldwide – particularly in Asia.
In turn, TECO will have access to Visedo’s unique expertise in developing synchronous reluctance assisted permanent magnet (SRPM) power systems, a technology superior to currently produced powertrains for heavy electric vehicles.
The partnership with TECO is part of Visedo’s concerted efforts to further develop opportunities in Asia, an emerging powerhouse for the electric vehicle segment. The greater Asia Pacific region – driven by demand in China and Japan – is forecast to be the world’s fastest growing market for electric vehicles by 2022.
TECO Company Chairperson Sophia Chiu said:
“We’re confident that TECO and Visedo can join hands in seizing the regional business opportunities for joint producing and developing electric drivetrain systems with even higher quality for customers, and creating a win-win for both parties in the Asia-Pacific market.”
Visedo CEO Kimmo Rauma said:
“During our visit to TECO’s Taiwanese operations we were impressed with the factory line up and were confident that the manufacturing of our patented permanent magnet power systems can begin in earnest to further disrupt the established electric motor market.”
LUT Rector Juha-Matti Saksa said:
“We are very interested to deepen the discussions with TECO and Visedo concerning the strong research-based knowledge that we have related especially to electric motors and drives at LUT.”
