Visedo to Deliver Electric Expertise for World’s Most Advanced Superyacht
Visedo is providing its electric propulsion expertise to Baltic Yachts for one of the company’s most advanced high-performance superyachts.
The leading international boatbuilder has selected Visedo to deliver a hybrid electric propulsion system for the new superyacht, the Baltic 142 Custom – the first hybrid yacht in Baltic Yacht’s portfolio.
Visedo’s hybrid system will reduce fuel consumption and emissions, as well as provide quiet operation and reduced maintenance. The electric system’s capacity also cuts the need for large, heavy hydraulics, and can drive equipment like the bow thruster, the rotating stern drive leg and captive winches.
Under power, the Baltic 142 Custom will be driven by a permanent magnet electric motor directly connected to the thruster protruding beneath the hull. It uses unique Visedo electric motor technology which is more efficient than using wound copper bushes.
“The propulsion motor will be powered by six banks of lithium-ion batteries, which in turn will be charged by two generators. Between them, they can produce 420kW, enough to propel the yacht at full power and run all hotel and sail handling requirements simultaneously.”, says Kim Kolam, in charge of developing the 142’s diesel electric system for Baltic Yachts.
The global service network provided by Visedo was another reason the Finnish company got the nod. Baltic Yacht puts great emphasis on client service and in this new superyacht there will be additional measures to make her service friendly. When sailing in more remote parts of the world, the yacht will be able to use commercial facilities rather than depend on specialist yachting centres that may be hundreds of miles apart.
The 43.3 metre sailing yacht is currently under construction in Finland and due for delivery in 2019.
