Kimmo Rauma honored with Electrical Engineer of the Year -title
Board of Electrical Engineers (SIL) has chosen Dr Kimmo Rauma as the Electrical Engineer of the Year. The nomination was published at a professional electricity trade-fair and exhibition (SähköTeleValoAv) in Jyväskylä on Wednesday 7th February. Dr Rauma was given a 5.000 Euros award.
Kimmo Rauma received the award as a token of his profitable and relentless entrepreneurship in developing innovative and clean electrical powertrain technology.
He is best known as the co-founder of Visedo Ltd which was a company focusing on electrical powertrains. Visedo was founded in 2009 and it developed and manufactured high efficient, smart SRPM electric motors and powertrain systems for heavy duty commercial vehicles and marine vessels.
Rauma built Visedo in short time into internationally known cleantech company that was known from new type of full-electric and hybrid systems. During the last year, Visedo got several awards and it was recognized by getting on the respected Global Cleantech 100 and Global Cleantech Later Stage TOP 10 shortlists. One of the signs of success is also that international publications such as The Economist, Telegraph and BBC World News covered Visedo and its technology in their stories.
End of the year 2017 Visedo was acquired by Danish corporate Danfoss. Through this acquisition, Danfoss wanted to respond to the increasing demand for less polluting electric solutions. Visedo’s activities continue as Danfoss Mobile Electrification unit and its headquarters remain in Lappeenranta.
After the acquisition, Kimmo Rauma continues to steer Danfoss Mobile Electrification unit as part of the Danfoss Group. Rauma’s title in the corporate is Vice President.
Beginning of this year, Kimmo Rauma started in the board of Lappeenranta University of Technology. According to the university, Mr Rauma’s experience of running a successful cleantech and international growth company is valuable input for the board. Rauma is also LUT alumni.
Kimmo Rauma was born in 1978 in Parikkala. He has studied at the Lappeenranta University of Technology. He got his Master of Science in Technology in year 2002 and PhD in year 2006.
